PREREQUISITE: Volunteer Orientation

This training will enable you to volunteer at a basic level for the Red Cross at community events and outreach campaigns.

This all day course is geared for training our mountain disaster response volunteers how to respond to an incident,  provide immediate assistance and follow-up assistance.   

 Prerequisite: 

• Fulfilling Our Mission and Mass Care. 

Attendance for the entire day is required.

Pre-register at least 48 hrs ahead of class start time to ensure materials and space is available.  Please note the change in dates to one week earlier each month beginning in March.

Comprehensive coverage of collision prevention techniques, including:  cushion of safety, scanning, vehicle positioning, safe backing, parking procedures, handling blind spots, vehicle inspection, safety belt and air bag systems, safe techniques of driving in commercial and retail areas and more.  Your insurance provider may offer reduced premiums for taking this class!

Psychological First Aid is an instructor-led, basic level course that consists of five separate segments and a self-review questionnaire. The course provides a framework for understanding the factors that affect stress responses in disaster relief workers and the clients they serve.

This course qualifies for 0.4 CEU credits under the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) guidelines.

PREREQUISITE: Volunteer Orientation

Preferred: Completion of Public Affairs and/or Basic Ambassador training.

RP&A is a Red Cross program which assists clients with their Long Term Recovery.  Once the Emergency Phase is over, the Red Cross does an assessment on the Long Term Recovery needs of the affected individuals and communities.  In collaboration with the community and other agencies, resources are identified to meet the needs of these clients. Learn what the Long Term Recovery process is all about.

The Restoring Family Links course and training enables paid and volunteer chapter caseworkers to more effectively deliver international Restoring Family Links casework services to clients who have been separated from family members in other countries by armed conflict, disasters or complex humanitarian emergencies.  The training explains how Restoring Family Links services are global in scope and a core activity of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Restoring Family Links services include Red Cross Messages (RCMs), Tracing Inquiries, Holocaust and war victims tracing services, information and referral services, and community outreach.

Course participants will learn the skills and procedures to undertake when initiating Restoring Family Links inquiries, conducting searches for clients in their community, delivering Red Cross Messages and other family news, and also have the opportunity to work with through several case examples.  The coursework and instructor facilitated discussions are supported by videos and interactive activities.

Participants will become familiar with the use of American Red Cross forms including the Tracing Inquiry form, the Holocaust/WWII Tracing Inquiry form, the Red Cross message form, and with the  service delivery direction and guidance, Restoring Family Links: Direction and Guidance for Chapter Caseworkers.

Participants must be ranked and must have served as a supervisor in any DSHR group in a service delivery site on at least one multi-chapter disaster relief operation OR must be a director of a chapter's disaster program with experience at a service delivery site.
