Volunteer Drivers
Transportation Drivers volunteering with the Mile High Red Cross take local seniors, persons with disabilities and others in need to doctor visits, medical procedures such as chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and other vital care visits. This service enables our clients to maintain an independence and quality of life not possible without it, and provides support for family and friends struggling to ensure their loved ones can get where they need to be safely.
As a benefit, volunteer drivers receive Adult CPR/First Aid and Defensive Driving classes free of charge. Transportation drivers must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid Colorado Driver’s license. Volunteer drivers must be able to pass a background check and motor vehicle records check.
We can use drivers from all over the Denver Metro area. However, If you live in the Boulder or Longmont area, we a have a strong need your help to provide this critical service to those who might have no other means of transportation to these vital appointments. Time Commitment: Minimum 2 days per month (Monday-Friday during regular business hours).
Transportation Dispatchers
Dispatchers volunteering with the Mile High Red Cross assist Transportation Drivers by providing directions and information that get them to their destination. A volunteer dispatcher is continuously in touch with the drivers, and safety is always the highest priority for our drivers and riders. Volunteers are welcome to give the amount of time convenient for them - from 1/2 day monthly to 1 or 2 full days weekly. Volunteers are needed from Longmont to Southeast Denver to drive to and from one of seven facilities throughout the metro area.
